Let Me Say it Again

If Brian didn’t want the kind of girlfriend who would force him to watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, he would not be dating me.  End of story.

PS it is so sad!  And French!  And subtitled!

PPS I cried at the end.  He did not.

You know, it just never feels like the right time to watch this movie. I ask myself, “Do you feel like watching a beautiful but tragic movie about a paralyzed man blinking to communicate?” And usually I have to answer, “No, no, I do not.”

I know, I faced the same problem– which is why I let Netflix decide for me! I added it to our queue a few weeks ago and figured that when it arrived, we’d basically have to watch it. This method has failed in the past (See: Donnie Darko, circa last spring, when we had it for a month and still never watched it…but we were also really busy). This time, anyway, it did work. I like to spring subtitled and Oscar Nominated films on Brian to get back at him for queuing movies like Ghostrider and The Bucket List. This passive-aggressive method of springing our very different tastes onto each other underscores the healthy nature of our relationship.

Hahaha, it sounds very healthy. Good for you. Hmm, forcing yourself to watch it by having it sent to your home – a good idea if I subscribed to such a service ;) Did you ever see Donnie Darko by the way? You really should, if you care about life and all the children of the world. It was good stuff.

Yes, you should be getting back at him for that whole “Bucket List” thing. Whenever I see that in the video store I think, “But do I really care about old men that much.” And apparently, I don’t.

Donnie Darko made me throw up! At least I think it did. Something made me throw up, and Jake Gyllenhaal had been the only new or strange thing in my day.
