sorry to be a hater, but Tom’s is owned by Colgate-Palmolive. Burt’s Bees is owned by Clorox. Odwalla is owned by Coke. evil corporate commercialism is inescapable.
Really? I had no idea. That is remakably depressing. Are there any ostensibly do-gooder companies left that didn’t sell out to The Man?
Although I guess my main reason for buying Tom’s is because it is aluminum-free, not because I wanted to support a little hippie company. But still. Damn.
I just did a quick search to see if anyone owns The Body Shop (not that they are really small to start with) and yeah, it’s Estee Lauder. Oh well. BUT, Estee Lauder, Body Shop, and a number of other companies owned by Estee Lauder are all on PETA’s list of companies that don’t test on animals, so at least they seem okay on that count. http://www.caringconsumer.com/pdfs/companiesDontTest.pdf Don’t know if any of that helps deodorant-wise though. I sweat too much to use the hippie stuff!
Well, that is some good news about Estee Lauder then! I remember reading a list like that and being staggered by how few options I had left that hadn’t probably made animals suffer in some horrible way.
Laura
It makes my armpits burn! I have no idea why. Too lemony?

Laura! The minute I read that, my armpits started to burn too! Burn with an unquenchable and stinky fire! Damn the power of suggestion!
Adrianne
Granted, I’m a delicate little flower, but Toms of Maine of all flavors, even unscented, has always burned off my armpits. WHY TOM WHY
mollyschoemann
It’s burning away all traces of evil corporate commercialism. UNCLEAN UNCLEAN
